Ph.D. Program in Basic Sciences (Full-time and Part-time)
The ICFAI Tech School (ITS), (Faculty of Science & Technology), IFHE, Hyderabad offers Doctoral Programs in Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics on full-time and part-time modes. The Ph.D Program provides scholars with opportunities to undertake research in emerging areas of Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics.

Objectives of the Program

  • Acquire fundamental and in-depth knowledge in the chosen field of research.
  • Apply research methodologies to undertake contemporary research problems.
Program Outcome
On successful completion of the program, every scholar must be able to:

  • Critically apply knowledge to address fundamental questions in their primary area of research.
  • Innovative research in the chosen discipline/an interdisciplinary area.
  • Follow the principles of ethics in research and in academia.
  • Demonstrate, through service, the value of their discipline to the community at large.

Chemistry Analytical Chemistry, Coordination Chemistry, Environmental Chemistry
Mathematics Number Theory, Boolean Algebra, Fluid Dynamics
Physics Mathematical Physics, Non-Linear Dynamics, Experimental Optics (Lasermatter interaction), Computational Condensed Matter Physics.


Eligibility
Pass with minimum 60% or 6.0 CGPA in M.Sc / M.Phil degree in Chemistry / Mathematics / Physics from a recognized Indian University or its equivalent degree from a Foreign University recognized by UGC / AIU.

The following candidates who satisfy the above eligibility criteria are eligible for admission into Part-time Ph.D. Program:
  • Candidates sponsored by recognized R & D organizations / Industries with a minimum of three years work experience
  • College teachers with a minimum of three years teaching experience.
Candidates seeking admission as part-time research scholars have to submit No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the employer to pursue Ph.D. They should also submit permission letters from their employers to attend Ph.D. course work conducted in two spells in the first year of the program.

Program Duration
The duration of Ph.D. program is a minimum period of four years to a maximum period of eight years from the date of registration. All full-time students admitted into the Ph.D. program must successfully complete the preparatory course work of two semesters duration and Ph.D. qualifying examination before registration.

Part-time students must complete Ph.D. course work conducted in two spells in the first year of the program before registration.

Admission Process Admission into the Ph.D Programs (full-time/part-time) shall be through a Ph.D Entrance Test and an Interview. The following categories of students are exempted from entrance test:

  • Candidates who have qualified for UGC/CSIR-JRF.
  • Candidates who have completed M.Phil, provided the M.Phil admission was based on an entrance test.
Fee for Ph.D. Program
The selected candidates have to pay an Admission fee of Rs.40,000. A refundable Caution Deposit of Rs.10,000 is to be paid along with the admission fee. The Caution Deposit will be refunded without interest (after adjusting for dues, if any) on completion of the program.

The Program fee is Rs. 60,000 per Semester. The Program fee is provided as financial assistance and is waived for full time research scholars, subject to meeting minimum academic requirements as specified by ITS. However, for part-time Ph.D students, financial assistance / waiver of fee is not applicable.

Fellowship
Full-time Ph.D. scholars, who do not receive any other fellowship, will be awarded the University fellowship of Rs.25,000 per month, from the date of admission, for a maximum period of four years that include one year of course work plus three years of thesis work. Continuation of scholarship is subject to satisfactory research progress shown by the scholar. A professional development grant of Rs.20,000 per annum is also given to full-time research students for a period of four years, which includes one year of course work and three years of thesis work.

Fellowship / stipends are not applicable for part-time Ph.D students.

* Full-time Ph.D students in Basic Sciences who maintain the prescribed levels of Academic and Research progress recommended by the University will get a full waiver of program fee.


Pattern of Ph.D Entrance Test: The pattern for the entrance test will be as given below:-

The test will be for two hours duration and shall carry a maximum of 200 marks.

The question paper will be divided into two parts of 100 marks each. Part-A is common to all subjects. There will be one precise writing followed by MCQs in Basic Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics and Awareness in Computers. Part-B contains MCQs in the subject studied at the Masters level.

There will be no negative marking for wrong answers. The entrance test is based on the NET syllabus.
