Ph.D. Program


IcfaiTech offers Doctoral Program in the areas of Basic Sciences, Engineering and Technology. The Ph.D. program is rigorous, multidisciplinary and broad in scope. Students are provided research training, encouraged to attend conferences and publish their research work leading to the creation of a highly skilled and independent researcher. The program has four phases, namely Course work, Qualifying Examination, Preparation of Research Proposal and Thesis work & Submission.

A student entering the Ph.D. program in Basic Sciences is normally expected to complete the course work of two semesters duration followed by a summer term project before appearing for the Qualifying Examination.

B.Tech / BE / BS graduates who are directly admitted for Ph.D. program must complete the course work of 80 units. They will take the Qualifying examination after the four semesters of study.

The program structure is tentati ve, subject to change (if required).

For a student admitted into Ph.D program with M.Tech / ME / MS degree, the research committee of IcfaiTech prescribes the course work after taking into account the equivalent courses completed by the student in his/her M.Tech / ME / MS Program. He/she must pass the qualifying examination before proceeding to work on their chosen research area.
Syllabus for Ph.D Qualifying Examination:
  • Students with M.Tech Degree from IcfaiTech: Courses undertaken during M.Tech program.
  • Students with M.Tech Degree from other institutions: Equivalent courses given exemption and courses done during the Ph.D course work.
  • Students with B.Tech/BE/BS: Courses done during Ph.D course work.
The student becomes eligible for a Doctoral degree after the thesis is unanimously approved by the team of examiners and the student defends the thesis in a formal viva-voce examination. Doctoral
